Glenda's Gallery 

Through my work, I explore the relationship between spaces that remain immobile to the passage of time and the vegetation that inhabits them. Old and decadent walls that regain life when modelled by the thickness of these plants that massively fill them with colour. 

With my paintings I try to build in a symbolic sense a story of the renewal of life and the link between these plants and women and their presence in the world, the way they hold on to the world, in an attempt to strengthen or remember the intimate relationship that both women and plants have with the space where they live. 

The symbiosis between nature and old walls was recovering a space in my imagination, to be revisited from a more reflective and interpretative perspective. In this sense, my purpose is to reveal what the most trivial objects tell us, the same ones that, at first glance, paradoxically perhaps because of their high visibility, people look at and do not see, and invite us to reflect on the links between the outside world and our inner world. To take advantage of the poetic layer that fills these living spaces and gives them an internal logic. A logic that reaches the senses and develops by representing life at a standstill, in dreamy places that carry a personal memory that in turn evoke stories, articulated in time. 

These places also summon other ways of perceiving the world. Like the gaze of a woman who left her roots behind and settled in a new world. Because in a way these plants also symbolise the woman’s own experience of transiting through cultures foreign to her own: both plant and woman were brought to Europe and both learned to survive, to take new roots and to flourish in a land that was not theirs, clinging to walls that were new to them, sometimes broken and worn, as an allegory of a life that tries to prevail in the most adverse circumstances.
